Field Trip 2009

October

Arrived late saturday afternoon weather was perfect for digging.Went back to the same spot i was digging on a year ago, some of the overburden had falling into the hole. After an hour of digging the hole was clear of all dirt. This will be the last time i dig at this spot there is to much overburden above my head.My friend's did not show up,so by having no backup in case of emergency like overburden falling it can be very dangerous digging alone.Using common sence can save your live.A couple of people have found out the hard way one made it out the other did not.Next spot will have very little overburden. As it started to get dark rolled out the sleeping bag.Watched the stars for awhile under a dark sky seen some meteories. After hearing the coyotes howling around me all night closed my eyes and fell asleep.

Sunday morning woke up early dug for seven hours, did not find much only two fire zone teeth. And one scorpion.Even though only found small teeth, just being back digging and sleeping under the stars,it's all worth it.

Digsite Digsite centipede

Here is what the digsite looks like while digging and sifting through the matrix for fossilized sharkteeth.Might just find a four inch centepede like this one.

Digsite Digsite Tent Digsite

To get to the ridge top there is about a two hundred yard walk, up hill all the way.Behind and to the left of the tent across the valley is another area where fossilized shark can be found also. There are the trails you can walk on to get to the dig site from the parking lot.
